Project Strategy
Cottonwood Creek Church was founded in 1882 when a small group of residents formed Mount Olive Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. Over the years the congregation grew into one of the largest in the Collin Baptist Association and they decided to relocate to Fairview, Texas in 1959. This location was home until decades later when they began to develop the land off 121 in McKinney in which they reside to this day. In 2023, the church experienced incredible growth, so they began their "Make Room Campaign" to raise funds for an expansion focused on their student ministry. The project strategy was focused on creating a space where teenagers have room to meet and come together, while also expanding on the infrastructure to continue to meet the needs of the growing congregation.
The project consisted of two main areas of focus: the gang-style restrooms and worship/flex space. Starting in the restroom, we were tasked with building a system that can meet all the standard requirements while offering the longest system warranty possible. We had confidence in
teaming with Mapei to build the ultimate 25-year warranty knowing the following products would outperform our needs. We utilized Novaplan 2 plus (to ensure a flat subfloor), Aquadefense (to provide waterproofing and iso crack abilities), Keraflex super (as our large and heavy tile mortar), and Ultra Color Plus FA (premium grout). These products are the work horses that allow all the Daltile products selected to showcase their beauty.
In the worship/flex space, our main focus was to provide a hard surface solution that also dampened the sound of foot traffic. We paired one of Daltile's new Luxury Vinyl collections, Loften, with a sound underlayment that met the requirements. Our last challenge was providing a recessed entry mat. We teamed up with Matter Surfaces and used their Legacy Series entryway mat that mimics a metal grille but performs as a carpet. To give the entire job the its last finishing touch we lined the walls with Johnsonite base.
Ultimately, we achieved a top-notch design from beginning to end highlighting the quality, durability, and future performance that our clients and their congregation will enjoy for years to come.
