Project Strategy
We supported the buildout of Lea French Café’s second Chicago location at 20 N. Michigan Avenue, following the success of the original café at 70 East Lake Street. Having completed the tile installation at the first location in 2021, the team was selected to recreate the same charming black‑and‑white aesthetic that defines the brand. Working closely with Fox General and Daltile, we focused on precision and consistency—carefully matching materials, layouts, and detailing to ensure the new space delivered the same quality, craftsmanship, and visual identity as the original café.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
During construction, the project faced a scheduling challenge when extended lead times for specialty red trim pieces—including the tile base, chair rail, and quarter round—were not accounted for in the general contractor’s timeline. To maintain progress without compromising design intent, we implemented a phased installation approach, completing all wall tile as scheduled and returning to install the trim once materials became available. This solution allowed the project to stay on track while preserving the café’s signature finished look, resulting in a seamless second location that reinforces Lea French Café’s brand and guest experience.
