Bethesda Regional Health Centre Addition, Steinbach, MB
69, 745 sf | $52.0M | Under Construction 2026 est.
A two-level expansion to the existing, 1960’s-built health centre, this addition increases capacity for healthcare programming and services to serve the greater Steinbach region.
The expansion consists of 15 private in-patient rooms on the main floor, seven of which are enhanced for palliative care, three operating theatres, a laboratory, patient lounge, spiritual room and dedicated staff entry. The project is delivered through Construction Management with sequential tender packages to prioritize schedule and budget targets.
The design strategizes for the natural integration of the addition into the existing hospital and greater site. Materials and finishes complement the integrity of the existing design and the expansion thoughtfully ties into both floor to support flow, circulation and wayfinding.
Flooring selections include the use of heterogeneous vinyl sheet with a wood-look finish in palliative care rooms, helping to create a warm, comforting, and home-like environment. This choice supports a more residential atmosphere while still providing the durability, cleanability, and infection-control performance required in a healthcare setting.
Wayfinding cues to direct family and visitors were created using homogeneous vinyl sheet flooring with organic, soft-curved coloured patterns placed at key points in the corridors to guide people toward department entries or nursing care desks. These accent areas act as subtle visual markers and provide intuitive guidance, helping families recognize when they are approaching department entries or care desks where clinical staff can assist. The flooring patterns to the care desks without relying solely on signage.
