Project Strategy

The goal for this project was to help them find the right products and colors, within budget, that would give them an updated look to the elementary wing of their building, as well as to ensure the maintainability of their flooring. The existing flooring had been down almost 30 years.
The color purple was a key component to the schools colorways and branding. We ultimately found the right colors needed and the maintainability in the Tarkett line. The school had maintaining carpet throughout the building and had done a fantastic job to date, but after 30 years the floor was worn and tired. We ultimately settled on putting Tarkett Powerbond carpet back into the classrooms and Tarkett LVT down the corridors.

Single Source Interior Contractor Award Strategy

We gained this customer from a previous project that we performed at this facility through a General Contractor Partner the year before. The client reached out and asked us to help them with replacing the 30 year old floors in their Elementary wing of the building. They we interested in using the Sourcewell contract for purchasing.
Initially the customer was interested in replacing their classrooms, which were primarily carpet, with Lvt, but after reviewing the existing conditions and discussing how well they had been performing maintenance on there existing carpet, we decided to explore new carpet as an option. After some budget exercises and further maintenance conversation, we decided to price carpet in the classrooms, library, and administration offices, and Lvt down the hallways
Branding was also part of the selection process. The school colors are purple, black, and gray. I wanted to find something that would not overwhelm, but would update their look and still bring some fun school spirit into their building.
Over my years in the business I have been impressed with the performance story of the Tarkett Powerbond carpet backing, and thought they would be a great partner to bring design but also to reduce risk with any potential moisture issues that might be present in an existing slab. I brought our Tarkett Rep, Mary Malone, into the conversation. With her design background, and Tarkett\'s visualization tools, she was able to help create the winning combination of carpet, LVT, and base to finish of the look that was proposed, and accepted by the school.
We started demolition of the existing flooring as soon as school let out in June. Moisture testing was done using Wagner Moisture meters. The floor was skimmed with Ardex Feather finish to create a clean smooth substrate to reinstall on. Cove base was applied using Mapei adhesive.
We finished the project by bringing in Mary to help educate the school maintenance staff on Tarkett\'s maintenance procedures.
The Sourcewell Contract made the whole process extremely simple and efficient. It allowed us to work closely with the client to price, select product and we got paid more quickly than through a typical general contractor project.
