Project Strategy

Located in the heart of downtown Greenville, SC, The City Club of Greenville (formerly the Commerce Club) recently underwent a major renovation and revitalization. This hidden gem serves as a welcoming space where members, professionals, and guests can gather to relax, socialize, network, and celebrate special occasions—all while enjoying panoramic views of downtown Greenville and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

These breathtaking vistas served as a key source of inspiration for the design. The interior palette features lush colors and rich textures that echo the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape and the architectural charm of downtown’s blend of historic and modern styles. The result is a warm, inviting environment that is both calming and visually striking.

A $2 million investment funded the comprehensive redesign and renovation, elevating the private business and social club into a modern, engaging member experience.

Major architectural and design upgrades include:

Two ballrooms—versatile spaces ideal for weddings, galas, and large business events.
Private boardroom—executive-style meeting space for high-level discussions and presentations.
Mini-meeting rooms—conduct business or remote work in intimate, professional settings.
Revamped lounge featuring two dining areas and a full-service bar—crafted for both casual and formal socializing.

The renovation launched alongside a full brand evolution: new name, logo, and interior aesthetic unveiled to align with Greenville’s energetic growth.
The rebrand reflects a reinvigorated mission: to be both a cultural landmark and a dynamic nexus for business, mentorship, and professional networking.

Thoughtful additions like the Emerald Lounge and flexible mini-meeting rooms provide members with inviting spaces to work remotely or host small meetings.

The Club’s upgraded environment aims to offer convenience, adaptability, and warmth—reinforcing its role as a premier destination for Greenville’s professionals and leaders

“The new designs, finishes and furnishings are inspired by an alchemy of sophisticated Southern hospitality, melded with the rustic elements and refined textures that represent the unique, natural beauty of the Upstate region.” - Ted Sweeney, General Manager & COO.

“Hospitality is the service of service to others… I get a front‑row seat to see people celebrating milestones, connecting, creating relationships and doing business.” - Tim Jarrett, Managing Partner, BNG Hospitality.

Unique Installation Challenge Strategy

In preparation for the renovation, our team—working in close collaboration with our long-standing general contractor partner—faced a series of complex challenges inherent to a high-rise building constructed in the 1980s. The project site, located in Greenville’s bustling business district, presented multiple flooring transitions and diverse material types requiring extensive demolition and meticulous subfloor preparation. Adding to the complexity, all work was performed on the 17th floor of a fully operational tower, where tenant activities continued uninterrupted throughout the day.

During pre-planning and execution, we encountered an unexpected specification issue: the originally selected click LVT flooring proved incompatible with the existing conditions. Leveraging our strong Starnet vendor partnerships, we worked hand-in-hand with Mohawk Commercial and the end user to identify an alternative solution that maintained the designer’s original vision and complimented the custom hospitality broadloom by Mohawk. The replacement 5mm LVT product mirrored the character-grade wood aesthetic and aligned with commercial standards, ensuring design integrity without compromising schedule, budget and or quality.

The downtown location introduced additional logistical hurdles, including restricted delivery windows and limited staging areas. Through proactive coordination and precision scheduling, our team overcame these constraints, executing the installation efficiently and minimizing disruption to building operations. Despite these challenges, the project was completed on time, delivering a seamless, high-performance flooring solution that honors the design intent and elevates the member experience.
