Project Strategy
The Menomonee Falls Public Library wanted to update its main level for children and contacted Lippert to assist with the work, including design assistance. Lippert reached out to their local Mannington representative to assist in selecting carpet tile and luxury vinyl flooring and help in rendering design development schematics to show the client.
This project was a blank slate, and the flooring design would influence the other finishes and the furniture. Several design iterations were done to finalize the layout, and to coordinate with new paint schemes and furniture layouts. The design intent was to create a childlike whimsical space and included unique details like paw prints leading to a reading nook, and other colorful features to brighten up the space.
The project required the removal of all of the books and stacks, all furniture, and existing finished flooring. Preparation of the substrate required removal and encapsulation of old adhesives, skim-coating areas receiving LVT, finished flooring installation, and reinstallation of stacks and books.
The collaboration between the Menomonee Falls Public Library and Lippert allowed for a great opportunity to revive the local library for the many local patrons, including numerous local schoolchildren. (This was the library that Les Lippert used as an elementary school student more than 50 years ago, and the one Mike Thom’s children use today. It’s our library.)
