Kiewit Fitness Center: Creighton University

Project Strategy

The Kiewit Fitness Center at Creighton University provides an expansive facility for students and faculty to focus on health and fitness. We have partnered with Creighton University for many years and our relationship continues to grow with each successful project we are able to help bring to life. Each project is a fun challenge with an opportunity to provide quality flooring products and installation, from design meetings to completion.

Our team worked with Creighton’s Facility Designer to create another great space while overcoming a unique challenge. The students and faculty that utilize this facility are now enjoying much needed renovations to this area. There is a completely renovated gym space that has increased functionality and the overall aesthetic of the facility and golf simulator suites were added for some fun. Renovations to the locker rooms and hallways round out the project.

The main gym utilized several Tarkett products including nearly 9,500 SF of Dropzone Speckle over the Tarkolay Membrane with Tarkett Vinyl Wall Base. Also included in that space is 1,200 SF of Eco Flexturf Monster creating an eye-catching workout area. We found the perfect product for the golf simulators with J&J Kinetex to complement the equipment Creighton University brought in with the needed durability for these suites.

Unique Installation Challenge Strategy

The original gym space was a pool that closed in 2008 and later had equipment in the pool for students and faculty to use. With completion of the infill our teams were able to work together and decide a layout of equipment with functional spaces to best determine flooring needs in each area. When the pool was infilled, we were left with no moisture testing options so the Tarkolay Membrane was used to prepare the space for flooring. This unique install was completed ahead of schedule giving students and faculty access to their new fitness center to start enjoying the hard work put in by many from each part of the team.

Single Source Interior Contractor Award Strategy

We worked with Creighton’s Facility Designer to review samples from our trusted vendors to showcase some great products and color lines that use the school’s colors to enhance this space giving it a custom look. Presenting durable products for each unique need this facility had, we were able to create a great space that many on campus will enjoy for years to come.
