Project Strategy
This project was particularly challenging for our team on multiple fronts. The owners wanted the failed, moisture-damaged wood floor removed and the substrate prepared for a new sports floor. To remove the old membrane and residue, Lippert had to shot-blast the concrete. Lippert teamed with Schonox to address the obvious concrete moisture issues and to provide the best substrate for the new floor. Schonox recommended a system using their EPA topped by US, with a final layer of XM.
With a young family, the owners wanted a kid-friendly floor that would be both aesthetically appropriate and provide proper cushioning and performance for family sports activities. Lippert recommended Gerflor’s Teraflex Dry-Tex System in Light Cherry and coordinated game line painting for basketball and pickleball courts. Both Schonox and Gerflor collaborated with Lippert to create the installation and design strategies.
The project presented significant challenges. Located at the bottom of a large hill, getting the heavy equipment and materials down to the site proved difficult. Multiple Lippert team members, including warehouse staff, project managers, and the account manager, worked to solve the delivery and recovery problems. With the soft ground conditions, plywood was laid all the way downhill to the entry. The shotblasting equipment was winched down and back up, as was the Gerfloor and all sundry materials.
