Project Strategy
The completion of the new Conference Center at the Morehouse School of Medicine was the culmination of 7+ years of projects on the MSM campus as a collaboration between DCO, DPR Construction, LAS and specifically long-trusted vendor partners Mohawk and Dal-Tile. DCO has worked closely with all parties, including MSM's independent Interior Designer, to single source all carpet and LVP through Mohawk, all ceramic and porcelain tile through Dal-Tile, and all resilient accessories (rubber base and stair treads) through Johnsonite/Tarkett.
While DCO used RFMS Measure for its take-offs and shop drawings to accurately account for more than 20 unique products installed as floor/wallcoverings, Mohawk was a valuable partner for providing its own shop drawings that provided actual renderings for the design team and Owner to see the actual products in the space prior to installation. Mapei provided all necessary setting materials and grouts for the tile scope while Uzin assisted in floor preparation.
The rapid growth of the campus has allowed the project team to work closely together to provide environments that are both welcoming and appropriate spaces for globally prominent guests to speak while still fostering smaller, more private spaces that allow students to focus on their studies. Additionally, the building provides new group workspaces for students, areas to relax outside, and offices for MSM faculty and staff. Careful attention to product selection -- including items used outside of the flooring scope -- exemplifies the efforts to promote sustainability to those in the community around the campus, culminating with LEED Silver certification status.
