Project Strategy
The Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells was carefully designed with lots of African inspirations. Every carpet, from the lobby to the private guest rooms, has a tale to tell and adds to the resort's distinct look and feel. Custom Milliken carpet tiles were designed to reflect African influences. Over 16 distinct safari-themed patterns, seamlessly merge artistry and functionality. They have very complicated patterns like insets, borders, animal prints, and even one-of-a-kind pieces like the elephant head made up of 9 and 16 tile options installed throughout the space. Careful attention was during the installation to make sure the correct carpets were being installed and that the intricate cuts and seams lined up correctly. Some tiles would need to be cut in half with one end getting cut at a 45 degree angle so it can create a border around the different insets. This flooring was selected not only for its visual appeal but also for its practicality in withstanding the high foot traffic of a bustling resort.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
Over 16 different tile patterns were used in this buildout. Animal prints, borders, and parts like the elephant head that were made of several tiles made the designs very involved. For them to be put in the right place, it took skill and careful planning. The hallway inset borders were delivered in 1mx1m tiles and the installer would cut the tiles in half and then miter the corners at the ends of inset so the border wrapped the field of the inset tile. The walls weren’t built to match the plans so there was constant realigning of the patterns and borders because each inset needed to be perfect in relation to the doors in each hallway bump out.
