CB Flooring HQ Renovation

Project Strategy

CB Flooring is a preeminent commercial flooring and tile contractor servicing the Mid-Atlantic market. CB was looking to upgrade their space to a design that was more conducive to the way they worked and reflective of their business. The focus for flooring selections was to display a range of products they sell and provide a bit of a wow factor while still being highly functional for their space and day-to-day business.

CB underwent a 6-month occupied renovation to completely re-engineer the layout and finishes of the 15,000 SF office.

CB worked with their landlord, Merritt Properties, who employed an in-house design/architecture/builder team. CB worked alongside Merritt design dedicated to the objectives above with the stipulation that all flooring throughout the renovation must be Starnet vendors.

A key concern was that the company's main warehouse abuts the office space, with frequent traffic between, so durability was top of mind. The layout chosen in the "flex space" was one in which the office was split into two, with a west and east wing – one side housing accounting/coordination/sales and estimating on the other. In between the two wings of the building are the amenities of the space - showroom, conference rooms, and kitchen. Diverse floor finishes are installed throughout. Milliken carpet tile was installed in the offices and conference rooms for ease of replacement, sound absorption, and aesthetics. The bathrooms feature Dal Tile large format porcelain on floors and wet walls for durability and ease of maintenance, with eye catching backsplashes and backlit mirrors over the sinks. The showroom uses a wood look LVT by J & J Flooring, installed on a 45-degree angle, abutting the kitchen which uses Ardex poured polished concrete topping in a high reflective sheen, providing the main pop. The showroom and kitchen were specified with high traffic use in mind. Custom walk off mats by Matter Surfaces, featuring the company's logo were installed at both entrances as the first product that any visitor will see.

CB took full advantage of the construction that took place in the occupied office, using it as a training tool for employees across the business. Not only did the staff actively witness each phase of construction, but they participated in hands-on training and demonstrations including RH testing of the concrete and each of the different types of flooring and tile installations. Educating and including employees throughout the renovation had the office engaged and excited for the new space.

CB hosted a grand "re-opening" party with vendors and industry friends after wrapping up construction to celebrate the refreshing vision that came to life!
