Project Strategy
The interior design intent for the Mills Memorial Hospital Redevelopment was to design a holistic journey that treats the whole person while creating meaningful and connected moments within the built environment that promote positive distractions. Two key phrases that help to define this holistic journey are “the patient experience” and “regional community connection.” The patient (and visitors) experience are envisioned as the sum of all interactions, shaped by the rich culture of the region's community and its history with the land; these elements are infused and influence perceptions across the continuum of care. Human-centered design strives to create spaces that positively impact the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being during their healthcare journey at Mills Memorial. A gradation of materials will enforce the design language set at the site level. These systematic and deliberate use of color and texture will help guide the patient through the processes and strengthen the confidence in exceptional care.
That promotion of good health, human-centered design and restoration of the spirit are further felt in the adjacent Seven Sister building. Empathy, respect and accessible quality care are felt throughout the woven textures, cultural references and thoughtful design that is weaved into the Seven Sisters building.
