Project Strategy
The Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut, underwent a major renovation and expansion to redefine its role as a cultural and educational hub. The $67 million project doubled the museum's size to 74,500 square feet. A 42,000 ft² addition introduced new galleries, a lecture hall, and public spaces. The redesign included a reoriented entrance facing Bruce Park, enhanced accessibility, and a stone-and-glass façade inspired by Connecticut’s geology that incorporates natural daylight. Flooring products were carefully chosen for their alignment to these goals.
Key upgrades include expanded gallery spaces for temporary and permanent exhibits, improved collection storage, and community-focused features such as a double-height lobby, a landscaped courtyard, a café, and a state-of-the-art lecture hall. These improvements address spatial and functional challenges while fostering community engagement and supporting diverse exhibitions and events.
The redesign integrates the museum seamlessly with its natural surroundings, enhancing its visual connection to the park. Executive Director Robert Wolterstorff emphasized the museum's ability to engage with the community like never before. The project exemplifies thoughtful design and collaboration, making the Bruce Museum a model of cultural and architectural excellence.
