Project Strategy

The Webb Center project at Old Dominion University involved designing and installing innovative flooring solutions to create a vibrant, functional, and sustainable learning environment. The primary goals were to enhance student engagement, safety, and accessibility while maintaining aesthetic appeal and durability.
We selected materials that could withstand high traffic and were easy to maintain, ensuring both longevity and ease of upkeep. To meet safety standards and accommodate students with varying needs, we chose flooring that improved accessibility. Our commitment to sustainability led us to use eco-friendly materials like Kinetex carpet tiles, known for their recycled content and low environmental impact, and Mannington Amtico LVP, recognized for its sustainable manufacturing process.
The project faced challenges such as heavy foot traffic and budget constraints, which we addressed by combining premium materials in key areas with more cost-effective options elsewhere. Acoustic control was critical for a conducive learning environment, and Kinetex carpet tiles provided superior sound absorption. The durable flooring solutions not only reduced maintenance costs but also extended the lifespan of the flooring, offering long-term value to the university.
