Project Strategy
South Allegheny Elementary School wanted to renovate its office space, library, corridors, and music rooms to create a welcoming atmosphere where students can have fun, grow, and achieve. The school had been dealing with floor movement and cracks and wanted to update the aging facility while staying within the district’s budget.
In the STEM/Library space, Draw Collective created the concept of a park, allowing for flexibility with shelving and furniture movement daily. When kids want to read books, sometimes they enjoy sitting on the floor to read or being tucked into a nook. The nest furniture pieces and flocked flooring help to provide soft, inviting textures for the kids to embrace grabbing a book and sitting on the floor to read. The Mannington vinyl tile pattern reflects the hustle and bustle within a city and supports a “dirty” area for easy clean-up of water, glue, glitter, markers, and cardboard shavings. The circles were waterjet cut, while the arc and pathway were expertly hand-cut and laid with precision. The school’s goal was achieved through innovative design and skillful installation.
