Cape Henry Collegiate, formerly known as The Everette School, was established in 1924 with humble beginnings. A school that started out of a summer home in Virginia Beach, VA, with only 8 students, has seen some major changes over the years. Today, Cape Henry Collegiate sits on 30 acres, is home to approximately 1,000 students in grades PK-12 and is recognized as one of the premier independent schools in the country.
W.C. Carpenter has completed numerous projects for Cape Henry over the years and was thrilled to learn of their desire for an updated cafeteria. Budget numbers were given a year prior to the start of the project; however, they did not decide to move forward with this renovation until June 2018. This allowed only 8 weeks for the job to be completed, from selecting products to installation. Knowing they wanted a wood look, Amtico LVT was presented, along with the idea of an intricate custom logo. A concerning discovery was made when moisture tests came back higher than expected. This issue was resolved by adding QuickStix pre-applied adhesive. Furthermore, the wall tile that was originally specified had over an 8-week lead time. We worked diligently with our rep partners to find an alternate, available product that was approved by the designer. This installation was completed in 4 days and this project was delivered ahead of schedule. Despite many challenges, Cape Henry received a final product that students and teachers alike, will be able to take immense pride in, along with a café that will set the standard for other schools looking to do the same.
