With the roll out of a revised logo and updated color pallet a few years ago, this 75,000 SF call center built in 1965 needed a refresh. In a building with mostly individual cubicles, this client wanted to redesign certain spaces on each floor to promote collaborative work, give a touch down space for mobile workers, and promote open communication. Touchdown benching areas were added along with larger break areas and gathering areas. Each floor of this call center has a different color scheme in it's existing systems furniture panels and seating. These are mostly muted soft colors. The new logo uses bright, almost florescent colors.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
Part of the challenge was to incorporate the blending of existing furniture along with the client's new brand color pallet into the new carpet and paint. Milliken's Remix Collection was a perfect solution to bring these 2 opposite color schemes together. Remix has a vast color pallet, and accent colors were able to be inserted into the pattern, which is a standard production on this particular line. We were able to match the color of the older existing furniture fabric with the accent colors in the carpet. With this pattern being offered as part of their standard line, we saved the client a tremendous amount of money for not having to buy a custom pattern. They will be able to buy these exact same colors in the future as well, and will avoid ordering large minimums. The Bassline pattern from the Remix collection was chosen for its visual effect of liveliness in this exciting call center.
The other part of the challenge was timing. With the consolidation of 2 other buildings into this building, time was of the essence. Furniture was being taken down and reconfigured. Tight coordination was a must to install carpet within a small window of the furniture being reconfigured. Our PM and Installation manager worked closely with the furniture installers and painting crews. Getting 300 employees moved from a location across town up and running within 5 months, and then another 200 employees coming from another area up and running in the next 5 months, we knew we needed a flooring manufacturer that was reliable and could produce over 12,000 square yards of carpet divided into each short period of time.
Another reason why Milliken was chosen was for the ease of install with Milliken’s non-reactive adhesive. This helped speed up the tight installation timeline. The cushion backing provides acoustical value to help control noise in a louder environment, and comfort under foot which the owner wanted for the employees. The cushion backing and type 6,6 nylon both contribute to longevity and higher performance creating an overall valuable total cost of ownership.
