Heartis Senior Living in Suwanee, Georgia, is a 160,000 square foot facility that provides residents a full continuum of care with an independent living, assisted living, and memory care wing. Warm LVT and ceramic tile flooring enhance the 158 resident units. First-class amenities include full kitchen and dining area, game and activity rooms, beauty and barber shop, café/bistro, and pool and fitness area. The products were specified by the designer, but DCOCF was able to find other options that were better suited for the use of the facility. Six carpets in the same color but in different designs were chosen. This project required expert logistics management to ensure that all of the different materials were organized and installed correctly. This project is memorable for many reasons, but the unpredictable weather conditions made Heartis Senior Living facility a project that will go down as the muddiest jobsite of 2018.
Rainy weather came about weeks into the project and created a large mud hole, causing logistic issues making it near impossible to get any materials through the jobsite. The building has an interior courtyard that turned into a pool of mud for months. A section of the building had to be left open to let the courtyard dry and to get materials into the building. Pallets of tile and other heavy materials would just sink. In addition, the GC did not allow running water to the building. This meant large containers of water used for mixing materials had to be hauled through the mud and lifted into the units being worked on. To make matters worse, this project started in the middle of winter with near-freezing temperatures, making for very cold conditions for the first phase. Unfortunately, these circumstances caused major delays in scheduling and the timeframe had to be extended. Though the situation was tough, the owner was very happy with how the project turned out. Though the conditions were difficult, the owner was thrilled with the final product.
