The Tacoma School District needed to replace an aging elementary school and SRG Partnership designed the new Skyline Elementary School adjacent to the existing school as a state-of-the-art facility to fit in architecturally with the mid-century residential neighborhood. The use of Tarkett Linoleum throughout the hallways and cafeteria was designed for ease of maintenance and mobility. Mannington carpet was utilized throughout the classrooms, library, and offices in a collection that speaks to the study of light, nature of surface, and its interaction with space. The result is three geometric patterns that use color, line work, shape, and texture to produce magical juxtapositions of surface and dimension, clarity, and ambiguity. Tarkett Omnisport flooring was used in the gym in a vivid blue color which is one of the Skyline school colors. The Tacoma School district chose the Omnisport because of its ease of maintenance, and safety features such as slip resistance and shock absorption as well as fatigue reduction.
