Project Strategy

The Danbury on Fifth project is a developer-driven senior facility with five floors and multiple units. The 200,00+ square foot project was designed predominantly with Tarkett with the designer, as well as the owner. It also includes our Starnet partners from Mapei, Schonox, Daltile, American Olean, and Milliken. Located in Columbus, south of The Ohio State University Medical Campus, it offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care with several resort style amenities.

Unique Installation Challenge Strategy

What makes Danbury a unique project and a unique challenge was one of the biggest industry issues that we have faced since and during Covid. We call this a Covid project as it was designed and built during that time period. Like many of us have experienced, access by manufactures to designers has been extremely limited. Designers and architects have further driven themselves into decision-making silos without contractors or flooring dealers. A major design flaw was made in figuring a non-warrantable substrate to be used as a subfloor throughout the entire building. A concrete board, that is not rated as an underlayment grade panel, was designed to be the substrate to adhere our flooring. This was a major issue for proper installation and warrantability.

We engaged the General Contractor, Daimler Construction, as well as Tarkett and their technical team in an effort to educate the client on the issue. This could have been a major liability and could potentially caused a massive flooring failure. Schonox became a clear resolution to the challenge at hand.

Schonox was able to provide a unique solution with the APF product that would make the substrate bondable, as well as add stability. Most of all, it provided a warrantable installation.

Through teamwork and collaboration of our Starnet partners, we were able to solve a difficult issue and add value to our customer.
