Project Strategy
Located in the heart of Providence, within the Healthcare District, stands Hasbro Children's Hospital — the state of Rhode Island's premier and only level 1 pediatric trauma center. When renovations to the active 200,000-square-foot space began in the Fall of 2019, both the design team and manufacturers collaborated to incorporate materials that were vibrantly colored and intricately patterned to better appeal to the children who are cared for in the facility. With the help of 10,000 square yards of Tarkett sheet vinyl, 2,500 square feet of Parterre LVT, 500 yards of Tandus carpet, and more than 20,000 linear feet of Johnsonite Base, approximately half of the 200,000 square feet underwent a modernized makeover that both looks great and can be admired for years to come!
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
This facility's renovation presented a unique challenge due to the hospital and emergency room being currently occupied spaces. The project was broken up into 12 phases with 2-6 sub-phases. Extensive swirling patterns spanned into different stages requiring our field staff to define the layouts of these patterns within each of the occupied spaces. Replacing the flooring within a 24/7 operating emergency room was also an arduous task. This required a tremendous amount of coordination between both the General Contractor and the hospital itself. This project stage had multiple sub-phases that permitted us to install within one side of the corridors and entranceways while always leaving the other open to access. We couldn’t be prouder of the obstacles our team had to overcome to make this 30-month project vision a success!
