Project Strategy

You have just entered a building designed as a late 1800s English manor house dedicated to mystery novels, games, movies, and local Wisconsin lore.

As you walk up the aged wood staircase, you come upon an English door complete with a brass mail slot, doorknob, a bird knocker and numbers noting 221b Baker Street, London, the home of Sherlock Holmes! His shadow with his famous cap and pipe is projected as shadow on the door.

As you continue your journey to the second floor, you are met with a wood paneled wall off the corridor. The mystery continues if you remove a tilted book on the shelf next to the leather chair. Listen carefully as the wall creeks slightly and reveals a door to a Conference Room with a rich red tweedy patterned carpet. Not only do these materials hold mysterious patterns, they carry travellers to an expedition of classic motifs, plaids, houndstooth, chevron and Persian rugs with a striking and whimsical twist. This software company located in Southern, Wisconsin utilizes unique designs, pattern and color changes in the corridor carpets as wayfinding for the employees and visitors.

The bountiful carpet transforms the circulation spaces into mysterious niches. The resilient tile in metallic colors create a plaid pattern in the copy rooms and break room in a traditional manner to compliment the millwork and artistry. Even the elevator appears to be a staircase descending seemingly into infinity with ominous crows peering through the window. At the other elevator, Alfred Hitchcock’s shadow looms on the entry doors with birds flying around the sky and one on his arm. Once inside the cab, the Clue game comes to life on the walls and floor.

On the top level, the attic of the manor house, you enter a cozy space for staff, complete with resilient tile creating patterns of trap doors, hinting at the mysteries that might be held below.

Unique Installation Challenge Strategy

We were in the middle of the 12,500 SY Custom carpet order for this project when we received a call. The carpet mill was getting out of the commercial business and Antron nylon was having several challenges producing the yarn for the same project. These two huge factors altered the design and impacted the construction schedule. We partnered with Mannington Carpet Mills on this project and had the extra challenge of procuring the US made 6.6 nylon to keep the project on schedule. Diverzify+ took a 12-week project and condensed it to 5 weeks to meet the client's deadline. We worked closely with Mannington to expedite the carpet to our warehouse and had several quality assurance inspections as the carpet was literally coming off the line and being shipped to us. We provided our top installers for 6 days a week and 12-hour days to ensure that a fine quality project would be delivered without delay. We partnered with TEC for their underlayments and premium adhesives so that our world class installers could focus on perfectly matching the large pattern repeats. In spite of all the behind the scenes anxiety (or perhaps because of it) and numerous job site visits, we accomplished an elegant and beautiful installation. The building conducted its Grand Opening on time.
