The East Irondequoit Central School District is a public school system in Rochester, New York comprised of approximately 3,600 students. During the design of their Capital Improvement Project at Helendale Road Primary School's library, they looked to playful colors and soothing textures while maintaining functionality and safety for the school system’s youngest learners.
The combination of Milliken's Motionscape Rapid, Launch 1, and Launch 2 with Formwork’s French Blue accents helps to create a fun, yet airy atmosphere for reading, relaxing and most importantly learning! Milliken’s Eucalyptus Saligna LVT provides a low-maintenance hard surface for creative messes in the Maker’s Space of the library.
A unique challenge began during the surface preparation phase. With the library expansion a new slab needed to be poured to meet up with the existing building foundation. Schonox’s SL smoothing and finishing compound allowed for a feathered, seamless transition. Due to time constraints and moisture issues, a mix of traction-back plus carpeting and Schonox EPA were used to mitigate the subfloor. Another challenge included the stage area of the library. The Milliken LVT needed to effortlessly transition to the custom-made nosing that coordinated with the remaining design elements. Each challenge was fully addressed and innovative solutions were completed on time and with the approval of all parties involved.
