Project Strategy

Bob Jones University campus was founded in 1946 in Greenville, SC, it is a Christian Liberal Arts school with over 3,000 students and 4 decades of generational leadership recognized all over the world as one of the top Christian educations. With a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in 5 schools, a college and a seminary, the facilities planning, and maintenance departments are continuously faced with multiple challenges every day.

Bonitz Inc. flooring division has been a long-time valued flooring specialty sub-contractor with over 25 years of answering to many of those facility and maintenance calls. From wall base falling off a wall to entrance walk-off systems to re-doing a dorm and classroom building floor and even FloorCare.

Bob Jones, on this occasion had a need to quickly refresh a private dining room that serves the President and multiple dignitary functions for the school. It required a bit more conversation around design direction with their in-house designer, product recommendations made in our library, extenuating performance attributes, site surveying, developing a budget and ultimately a proposal to turn-key and execute the renovation.

Bonitz has been working with Tarkett products for decades and the owner has been a longtime user of modular tile and PowerBond, a resilient heterogenous system. We started conceptualizing with some of the latest product collections that geared itself towards a hospitality aesthetic. One Collection stood out with its offering of 14 organic patterns and three backing options - the “Garden Walk Collection “ would answer the call. With that said, we prioritized the functional aspect of what the school wanted in performance and the way the space would ultimately impress it’s guests. PowerBond was an initial obvious choice with all its attributes. It’s resilient composition could support an area that is subjected to a lot of food and beverage and be the backdrop to a sea of table and chairs with a large-scale pattern, in 6’ foot widths was a bingo. As the round table discussion started it ended with the fact that the other alternative backing options, in a large format 18”x36” plank tile, installed in a herringbone installation would grandly multiply the scale and energy the "Summer Walk" pattern would communicate and still yield years of performance.
