Project Strategy
B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts was a drab, cinderblock facility. Community and educational leaders envisioned a modern, inspiring facility and, in 2019, started construction on a $263 million, 501,000-square-foot, a state-of-the-art educational facility designed by Ai3 Architects. A 1-year delay in the start of construction resulted in the Pavilion Floors 18 month installation schedule being reduced to a mere 8 months. With tightly coordinated material staging and crew scheduling, the Pavilion team was able to complete installation of 250,000 sf of Armstrong VCT with a 5 color pattern, 11,750 sq. yards of Tarkett Sheet Vinyl with intense pattern work,14,000 sf of Johnsonite rubber tile, 50,000 lf of Johsnonite Rubber base, 800 sq. yards of J&J carpet, and a custom school logo in sheet vinyl in time for the new school year. Despite significant challenges in time as well as intricate material patterns, the Pavilion Floors team was successful. “We are going to have a world-class facility for the students of Fall River for many generations to come,” said Principal Matt Desmarais.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
This project had a major delay in the schedule causing many trades to be working in the same space. This made the installation of the flooring extremely challenging because of the intense pattern work that was performed. Pavilion often had to layout their work and establish patterns while sharing the space and in some instances prior to walls being in place.
