This Capital Project at East Islip Schools was a complete update of both learning and common spaces throughout the campus. The scope included replacement and upgrades to ceilings, flooring, painting, lighting, Bathroom renovations along with Asbestos abatement. The flooring aspect included 70,000 sqft of Asbestos Abatement of existing tile and the replacement with Mannington LVT and Roppe Cove base along with Mapei Self Leveling Novo Plan 2 throughout the area from anywhere from a 1/4 inch to 2 1/2 inches in thickness. The project also include the complete gut and rebuild of 12 bathrooms which included floor and wall tile from Daltile. As you see in the pictures it was very important to the end user to have the school color throughout the project.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
The unique aspect of the East Islip Capital Project was the timeline with the entire Flooring project having an 8 week turnaround time during summer break. Another Challenge was an unforeseen layer of gyp-crete that was removed during the Abatement causing slab depressions to increase by 1.5 inches in some areas. The most unique challenge was working within the set forth Covid protocols such as providing vaccination status for field labor, cleaning and sanitizing the work space and equipment daily, and the field labor having to work while wearing additional PPE during the heat of the Summer. All said in done the project was completed through great teamwork from all of Milburn's Starnet Partners and our partners on site for this project, Renu Contracting, H2M Architects, Park East Construction.
