First Baptist Church of Denham Springs welcoming words are, “We have a place for you” .. and they mean it. Their doors are open to share their purpose and why they exist, which is to share the gospel. The pillars of their community and mission rest upon powerful words such as connect, grow, serve, and lead. They desire to spread the joy of living a unique journey with Jesus Christ. Upon entry, you’ll find a Connection Cafe, Kid’s Wing, Family Life Center, Worship Arena, and more. Each separate space of the facility is meant to focus on different ways in which you can get plugged in — which is exactly what they wanted from their design. A different look for different areas to represent variation, uniqueness, boldness.. an inviting space that welcomes the outside, in.
The design for this space evolved as a collaboration between the architect, designer, builder, and client. Their goal was stripped down to the basics.. to seek creative ways for the church to connect with the community. A connection that stemmed physically and emotionally as you walk throughout the church’s campus. A campus that stirred up a joyous atmosphere and one with the feeling of belonging and being at home.
Over 6 different variations of floor coverings were used to create an obvious delineation of areas and align specifically with the need for the space. For example, the Kid’s Wing called for color, excitement, adventure, and this was a great opportunity to bring in lively and bold aesthetics using a variation of carpet tile. The Cafe and common areas are meant to deliver a natural and soothing feel through neutral colored LVT. Although aesthetics were the main driver, performance was also imperative. The more feet in and out of the church; the more FBC Denham has the opportunity to grow their mission.. and the more their facility has to withstand this foot traffic. Selecting the appropriate specifications from a diverse group of manufacturers provided the church with an investment that can feel proud of. Ultimately, so that they continue to invest in reaching the community. To show, they have a place for you.
