Bluff Middle School, a newly built facility for the Ascension Parish Public School System, was designed to create a next-generation learning environment that provides educational equity and supports new and traditional teaching techniques. A long and narrow site led to the development of a linear two-story floor plan.
The interior concept was inspired by the energy of nature, and a bold, modern color palette of teal, lime green, lemon yellow, black, and white infuses the interior spaces with energy.
Due to the linear nature of the building, floor patterns and accent colors are used to break up long corridors and create visual interest. The open-concept media center features a diagonal split in the floor and ceiling colors, inspired by lighting, and the student commons features a large-scale VCT pattern in neutral colors to create visual interest on a large floor surface without being overwhelming.
The result is a building filled with color, warmth, and texture to inspire the Bluff Middle School “Bears” to be creative, collaborative, and innovative.
