Project Strategy
Awaken a multi-location mega church and West Coast Design came to Workplace Services with their philosophy of developing a building design that impacts the city and has an atmosphere which will draw the community in through design and function. The opportunity was to renovate an old 70,000 square foot store into a minimalistic, contemporary, multifunctional facility that would feel welcoming to those who have attend church for years and those who have not.
The challenge was to overcome over 40,000 square feet ground floor of broken, unlevel and saw cut filled high moisture concrete slab and a second floor constructed of wood which had excessive moisture damage. We were able to develop a design which would address the moisture and surface preparation concerns while delivering the desired aesthetics within their budget.
When you enter into Awaken you’ll see and feel the lifestyle right away. For the preparation we selected Tec and Uzin primers, patching and self-leveling compounds. To address the high moisture, Milliken adhesives and LVTs were utilized. For the youth areas products included ecore turf and Milliken LVT. In a youth room which would be used for both sports and as a gathering area we installed Tarkett multi-functional sports flooring. On the stage and in other gathering areas and offices Armstrong LVT was installed. Daltile was used throughout, including the restrooms, bistro and kitchen with patterns and design which fit the desired feel. Roppe and Johnsonite were used as base, stairs and trim materials.
From the entrance to common areas, halls, and the sanctuary each area had a specific need and wanted to make a style statement. Our installers took an old facility and maliciously worked to install thousands of feet of Starnet materials to transform the environment.
