The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) is the governing organization for engineer and surveyor licensure for the US and US territories. NCEES wanted a facility that would serve as a national headquarters for the organization, host national meetings, and expand the NCEES brand and visibility. The renovation sought to improve operational efficiency with adaptable spaces and directional cues. Flooring delays caused by a global pandemic could have created other delays in the project, but the manufacturer was able to deliver the originally specified product in order to help achieve the design intent. The renovation sought to improve operational efficiency with adaptable spaces and directional cues. The flooring design draws attention as people travel through the primary corridors to key rooms, and a change to red carpeted areas mimics the drop ceiling above or draws people into the space once inside a room. These flooring cues delineate spaces while still offering flexibility within the room, encouraging greater adaptability. Complimentary flooring patterns and color maintain consistency on each floor while highlighting NCEES' aesthetic throughout.
