The Fitness Center / Weight room for Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington was a tired looking facility built in 1963 that has undergone many flooring changes over the years, usually by installing another layer of flooring on top of the previous floor. When we started the current renovation we had seven layers of flooring with carpet being the latest finish! This college is in an area that is difficult to attract students and one of the hopes of this latest renovation is to make it become a magnet for prospective students employing state-of-the-art weight training equipment.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
Our unique installation challenge was removing the seven layers of previous flooring including hardwood, vinyl, and carpet approximately three inches thick! We then had to Diamond grind the concrete subfloor, install Uzin moisture mitigation system and self-leveler. We also had to ramp the lower floor up to all the entrances to the gym using Uzin 182 due to the much lower level (minus seven layers of flooring). We installed the Ecore and Everlast recycled rubber flooring along with Nike Grind Agility Turf for and indoor track. The facility is state-of-the-art for weight training and has an indoor baseball batting facility utilizing Ecore as well and in result has drawn many new students to enroll in the college since its opening last fall!
