The B.E. Smith Family Center provides a home for the Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center and the Shawnee Mission Early Learning Center. As the largest child care center in Kansas, Early Learning Center enrolls 600 children a year. The facility is located on the Advent Health Campus in Merriam, Kansas. The two-story, 63,000 square feet building provides therapeutic and educational offerings for children and their families. SVPA Architects designed the learning environment for children of all abilities and focused on promoting connection between children, families and staff that supports inclusion of children with special needs. The facility has three music therapy rooms, three feeding therapy rooms, and two aquatic pools. Building finishes include 43,000 square feet of J&J LVT in corridors and classrooms, and a 5,000 square feet multi-sensory room with Gerflor Taraflex M Comfort that features a unique inset track.
