Project Strategy
Fostoria City Schools recently completed two major building projects that transformed the northwest Ohio school district. The concurrent projects were a 119,000 square-foot addition and renovation of an existing PK-6 facility as well as a 126,600 square-foot new 7-12 building. The client’s goal was to create modern, thoughtful learning environments that would inspire students, bring pride to the community and be efficiently maintained for years to come. The district was able to bring all staff and students onto one cohesive campus and wanted the building interiors to reflect that new campus culture. The design team at Garmann/Miller Architects-Engineers focused on using similar colors as a wayfinding cue in both buildings. Accents of saturated hues give different areas of the buildings a unique identity. Strategic floor patterns in long corridors signal important landmarks and intersections. Acoustics, underfoot comfort and long-term maintenance were prioritized when selecting Roppe rubber tile for corridor flooring. Acoustics also were a key consideration in the use of carpet tiles throughout classrooms, extended learning areas and media centers.
