Project Strategy
The Center at Waterfront is a state-of-the-art 72,655 square foot physical rehabilitation and complex nursing care facility in Wichita, KS. This campus offers 80 private suites, complete with ADA-style bathrooms. Over 150 patient services are provided within the facility. Many of these services are geared toward improving patient’s coordination and balance which allow them to become independent when they leave the care of the facility. In order to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the patients, residents and staff, durable, quality flooring was top-of-mind. The interior design is meant to be comfortable and evoke the calming feeling of home. Both goals were achieved with the use of wood look tile and patterned carpet in the entryway and sitting areas. Vertically placed subway wall tile was used to add interest and texture to the area. The combination of various carpet colors and patterns within the physical therapy room added design interest and defined areas within the room while maintaining the inviting feeling of the campus. The main challenge our project managers and installation crew faced was the requirement of ADA compliant zero-entry transitions throughout the facility and shower curbs in the private resident bathrooms. This presented a unique challenge due to fiberglass shower pans which were not recessed during plumbing installation to meet the ADA standards. We provided a solution by prepping/self-leveling all 80 private suite bathroom floors. We also leveled all others flooring areas prior to installation, dealing with many high and low areas, up to 1” variance in some areas. The finished installation yielded beautiful and safe flooring for all areas of the nursing and resident spaces.
