CP provides individualized solutions for a variety of physical, sensory and communication conditions to residents of Northeast Wisconsin, working with more than 2,100 people of all ages annually. The non-profit organization offers Adult Day Services for adults with physical and developmental disabilities; Therapy Services in speech, physical and occupational therapy for infants through adults; Early Education & Care for all children, regardless of ability; and an Aquatic Center. With the goals of expanding services, improving accessibility to those services, and creating a welcoming, low-maintenance environment to serve its clientele, CP designed a building renovation and expansion project that grew its footprint from 46,500 square feet to roughly 68,000 square feet. Challenges of the project included its two-phase structure – the Phase One building addition and the Phase Two renovation of existing, vacated space – along with the amount of specialized uses throughout the facility and the need for extensive floor prep in the areas being remodeled. CP staff was heavily involved in the design process, and desired to transition from the feel of an institutional environment to one that is contemporary, bright and open. Selection of the right finishes, with the characteristics of low maintenance and durability to fit the design, was integral.
