Century offers consideration be given in the Education Category to The Meijer Regency Room at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI. The Regency Room is an elegant dining room offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The dining room seats up to 90 guests, arranged to your specifications and includes a living room section situated in front of a fireplace wall. Serviced exclusively by Leo's, a local 5-star restaurant, guests enjoy a high level of service, excellent food, experienced wait staff, chef on premise, and beautiful accommodations. Remodeling work in this room was challenged by maintaining period type broadloom design with the new carpeting to be installed. The old broadloom was to come out – and the university did not want broadloom again!
Large wood beams and beautiful wood baseboards and trim accentuate this room. Nostalgia and prestige dominate this space, and the carpet chosen had to mimic such design. Adjoining the Regency Room is the Nancy Lubbers Garden, available seasonally as a reception area. Just outside the double doors is a beautiful terrace patio with a historic fountain with flowers galore that complement the carpet inside. The unique bill of fare and menu offered to guests of the Regency Room must have highly cleanable surfaces.
Milliken was just the right vendor to handle the task and the carpet choice was period-perfect, matched the vines in the garden and was beautiful and a perfect finish to the room makeover. The pattern was made up of several large tiles to create the pattern repeats and to mimic the plush look of a broadloom. You must crawl on the floor, however, to detect any seams in the carpet tile by Milliken. This unique challenge was about beauty, a largely centered medallion, and making it happen in the dark of night without disrupting events and other renovation projects happening on campus.
Today, this room hosts private parties and many of its guests are the known, predominant families in West Michigan who donate to public facilities and Universities across the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. Lisa Speet, Account Manager at Century and her team handled this project without incident, and Milliken’s Kathy Cain delivered as promised a beautiful finished product.
