Andover Sunflower Elementary School is located outside of Wichita, KS. The 24 day timeline of the project was tight and required a firm completion date to allow the staff to prepare the area for fall classes. The project involved coordinating with school and general contractor to move furniture, remove prior flooring and install new flooring in the library, hall and several classrooms. The gemstone of this project was the use of Kinetix carpet tile in the library, which framed the unique installation challenge. Our sales team along with the J&J rep worked with the school facility manager to switch the speced, non-Starnet product to a Starnet product. The J&J Kinetex is now the carpet spec in all 12 Andover district schools. The result of the project is a clean, comfortable and attractive environment for the students to learn.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
The library area featured is a hexagon platform in the library. The room is approximately 3,500 sft and has Kinetex carpet tile installed with a quarter turn method. This same carpet tile is installed on the hexagon shaped platform steps, quarter turned as well. This required several custom cuts and acute attention to detail regarding layout to keep the pattern lined up. Contact adhesive was used to keep the carpet tile adhered over the risers, as well as notching out the backing slightly where it met the nosing edge of the step. To our knowledge, this use of Kinetex on hexagon steps is a first of its kind. The J&J technical rep took pictures of this project to use as a reference when asked about Kinetex installation on steps.
