Project Strategy
Clearwater West Elementary School is situated in a small community outside of Wichita, KS. The timeline of the project was tight and required a firm completion date to allow the staff to prepare the area for fall classes. The LVF specified was Mohawk custom. This specific LVP was on back order that extended past the deadline. Even while the Mohawk team was working hard to keep thier product spec’d, our team was working to change the specification to Mannington.
The gymnasium is Kinetex with water jet cut inserts to define areas of the room. The Kinetex allowed us to skim coat over the existing adhesive and install directly over the existing slab without having to pass the cost to the school of grinding and installing a moisture mitigation product. (The finished project is a functional, first-of-its-kind, gymnasium floor that will provide a foundation for learning and entertainment for many classes of elementary school students.
The work of our sales team and the manufactures flooring reps. has changed the school districts carpet and LVP spec from non-Starnet products to all Starnet products.
Unique Installation Challenge Strategy
The most unique flooring application on this project was the use of Kinetex in the school gymnasium. The material was selected for its hard surface characteristics needed in a gymnasium as well as the soft surface benefits. The installation required count lines and number markers to define certain areas on the floor. These inserts were water jet cut. This is the first use of Kinetex for a ball count and the first use of a water jet cutter on the product. The main challenge was floor preparation as the existing floor was installed with cut-back adhesive and was failing due to high PH and RH readings.
