“But those trees! Those trees! Those Truffula Trees! All my life I'd been searching for trees such as these”. Dr. Seuss, The Lorax.
Inspiring words for the design of the new Dr. Seuss Museum, celebrating the life of Springfield’s native, Theodor Geisel, aka, Dr. Seuss. The goal was to make Dr. Seuss’ words come alive in every way possible for visitors both young and old. The first-floor features family friendly, interactive exhibits which provide opportunities to experiment with new sounds, play rhyming games, and invent stories. The flooring was chosen to accentuate these themes with an elaborate water-jet cut vinyl composition tile design that meanders throughout the area. Such vibrant colors with Seuss-like names of Dazzleberrry, Lemon Squeeze and Green Grass, provide a wayfinding path to travel from one eye-popping room to the next. Challenges occurred in completing this renovated, historic museum in just a few months while sharing tight spaces with artists as they designed detailed Geisel wall paintings in line with the fun flooring patterns. The result is indeed magical. “you find magic wherever you look. sit back and relax. all you need is a book” ? Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat.
