Bates College realized its goal of creating a place for community through the completion of Kalperis and Chu Halls. The new buildings are now home to over 240 students and the College Store, as well as the campus mail and printing center, Post & Print. The complex of buildings and green space celebrate the history of Bates, and form a new campus gateway for the College and neighborhood community. The project’s 240 beds are a mixture of single and double-bed rooms, and there are a multitude of community spaces throughout the buildings: each residential floor includes two living rooms where students can gather for a movie or play video games; enclosed study rooms, and open study nooks promote collaboration; a game room in each building allows students to take a break from their studies for a round of table tennis; shared kitchens and dining rooms offer a communal venue for a quick snack or a group-prepared meal. The configuration of spaces, abundant amenities, and selection of sophisticated, durable materials all result in a new campus destination.
