Project Strategy
This International Arrivals Terminal has over 3 million travelers on a yearly basis. The client wanted a material that would address several prerequisites and issues at one time and still fall into the budget proposed. After consulting with Selectech their Freestyle Flooring Tile was the material chosen for this project. Below are the concerns and variables we needed to address;
a) Freestyle Tile is able to be installed over most existing floor finishes. This facilitated the installation to go right over the existing rubber tile, previously installed by Lane's, and therefore saving substantial monies on demo and floor preparation. Subsequently, no environmental impact.
b) Freestyle Tile resist high moisture levels in concrete. This eliminated the need for any costly moisture mitigation which was evident in the slab. Subsequently, no environmental impact.
c) Installation of the Freestyle Tile floor has little or no down time or need for any extensive floor preparation which was great for a 6 -to-8 hour installation shifts. Subsequently little or no environmental.
d) the client wanted to be environmentally conscious; Freestyle Flooring is 70% recycled vinyl, 100% cradle-to-cradle, adhesive free and contributes to LEED.
Environmental Achievement Strategy
The size of the project itself was the main motivation in obtaining an environmental achievement. Over 72,000 Sq.Ft. of recycled floor was installed. The floor contains one of the highest recycled content in the industry along with being a 100% cradle-to-cradle. Although this was not a LEED project, but if it were, we could've potentially had 5 LEED points in the Material & Resources category and up to 2 LEED points in the Regional Materials Category as the manufacturer was within a 500 mile radius of the project.
