Project Strategy
Designed by Intregus Architecture, the 140,000 square foot building situated on 6 acres with 130 feet of slope, supports an educational program that includes core learning classrooms, science labs, art, music, career technical education, and library spaces. Due to the vertical nature of the design, the building is organized around important adjacencies to ease wayfinding for students, staff, and visitors. Each level was assigned an accent color to aid in wayfinding and provide visual interest as users move throughout each level and space. Wayfinding colors and graphics are located at the main stairwell serving levels 1 through 5 and are used throughout as accent colors at classrooms, classroom entrances at corridors, and in casework throughout. Wayfinding is also aided through changes in the material or color of flooring at transitions between different rooms, spaces, and uses. Changes in the color of resilient flooring, Tarkett rubber tile, at classroom alcoves marks an entry point into each group of learning spaces that contain Mannington carpet. At other locations like the gymnasiums, library, music rooms, and commons, changes in the flooring material or color denote a change of use or entry into a new space.
