Project Strategy
RD Weis specified, designed and installed approximately 250 square yards of Milliken Color Field Carpet Planks in the Horace Mann Center at Westfield State University in Westfield, MA. The independent, custom logo installed was a new offering from Milliken. All work was performed on an MHEC State Contract.
The lounge area is basically for the students, who use it as a meeting space. WSU needed something to make it pop and were adding new furniture as well. They needed a facelift. The previous flooring was a dull beige color, with no life. The entryway had ceramic laid down where people were slipping so we suggested ripping it up and replacing it.
RD Weis was asked to present several flooring options for use on the campus lounge. We worked with WSU staff to come up with their flooring solutions. A main obstacle was bringing everyone on board with the color selection. The school wanted to see some samples with blue in it as blue is a color in the logo for their school.
The RD Weis team considered all the input and came up with a solution that the client liked very much. Milliken Color Field Carpet Planks were chosen along with walk off carpet for the entryway using Milliken Walkoff Quadrus. Quadrus is supplied in a modular tile format with an integral cushion backing and provides a protective barrier against the outside elements while still conveying a positive first impression. It delivers underfoot comfort, improved acoustics and durability. The product has been designed to stop dirt and moisture at the door, while allowing easy removal during maintenance, similar to the Color Field Carpet Planks.
The project was a success, transforming the once drab communal area into a welcoming spot for the students.
